Graduate Student Research Support Award
The James Joo-Jin Kim Center for Korean Studies is pleased to announce the Graduate Student Research Support Award. Supported by the Core University Program for Korean Studies of the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS), the award is aimed at graduate students at the University of Pennsylvania in good standing who are engaged in a solo-authored or first-authored research project on Korea or Korean diasporas. Award recipients will each receive $2,000 to be used for fieldwork, conference, and other expenses to fund their proposed research. This award aims to help graduate students develop a research project involving Korea(n) as its main focus or in comparative perspectives. We particularly value research that has publication potential in peer-reviewed journals, and welcome both new and ongoing research on historical and contemporary Korea.
Award recipients will be required to: 1) submit a mid-term report (max. 2 pages) within six months of receiving the award; 2) submit a working paper describing the research output within a year of receiving the award; and 3) present their research at an upcoming Graduate Student Workshop or Korean Studies Colloquium at the Kim Center.
