The James Joo-Jin Kim Program in Korean Studies is pleased to announce the Graduate Fellow Award, aimed at students who are involved in the study of Korea and interested in active participation in the university’s Korean studies program. The Kim Program will recruit up to five (5) Graduate Fellows for the 2020-21 academic year. Fellows will be selected on the basis of academic merits and demonstrated interest in Korean studies. Applicants for this one-year, non-renewable award should be graduate students. Preference will be given to applicants at the early stage of a master or doctoral program. This award aims to help graduate students develop a research project involving Korea(n) as a main focus or in comparative perspective that can evolve as a dissertation or thesis.
Graduate Fellow benefits include:
• Scholarship of $2,500 (disbursed in April 2021) upon fulfilling all requirements as outlined below
• Mentorship opportunity by Kim Program-affiliated faculty on the project
• Invitations to meetings with guest speakers for the Korean Studies Colloquium
Graduate Fellows are expected to:
• Reside in the Philadelphia area;
• Complete the research proposal as planned;
• Present a research outcome in the Kim Program Graduate Student Workshop;
• Attend Korean Studies Colloquium Series and Conferences;
• Help to organize Graduate Student Conference; and
• Attend monthly meetings with the director.
If the fellow fails to complete the requirements of the award, the Kim Program maintains the right to annul the award.
