The James Joo-Jin Kim Center for Korean Studies is pleased to announce the Undergraduate Fellow Award, aimed at students who are involved in the study of Korea and interested in active participation in the university’s Korean Studies program. The Kim Center will recruit up to five (5) Undergraduate Fellows for the 2022–2023 academic year. Fellows will be selected on the basis of academic merits and demonstrated interest in Korean Studies.
Undergraduate Fellow benefits include:
• Scholarship of $1,500 (disbursed in April 2023) upon fulfilling all requirements as outlined below
• Invitations to meetings with guest speakers for the Korean Studies Colloquium
• Research feedback and opportunity to be mentored by Kim Center-affiliated faculty on Korean Studies-related research projects
Undergraduate Fellows are expected to:
• Complete (for credit) at least one non-language Korean Studies course per semester, subject to approval by the Kim Center (ex. EALC 0160-401 Arts of Korea, EALC 1379-001 Korean Popular Culture).
• Attend weekly Korean Studies Colloquium (Thursday, 12:00-1:00pm)
• Present original research in the Kim Center Undergraduate Research Symposium
• Organize one cultural event as a team
• Attend monthly meetings with the director
If the fellow fails to complete the requirements of the award, the Kim Center maintains the right to annul the award.
