I am a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences who is studying English. I am very interested in the intersection between language and health, and, subsequently, I have worked and researched within the fields of nursing, psychology, and English. I decided to apply for the Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship program following a very profound experience two summers ago when I volunteered as a teaching assistant to help teach a TOEFL class that gave instruction to immigrant and refugee students in Philadelphia. My interest in teaching in South Korea and learning more about its culture stems from classroom and recreational study of Buddhist art and initial independent research for my senior honors thesis. When I return to the United States after my year abroad in South Korea, I will be attending the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Nursing to complete an accelerated Bachelor’s degree. As an aspiring nurse, I believe that my time in South Korea will make me a better clinician, caregiver, and educator that can provide care for and educate my students and future patients and their families.
