Organized by Dr. Sharon Yoon, Kim Program in Korean Studies Korea Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow
The James Joo-Jin Kim Program in Korean Studies Symposium titled "Koreans in China since the 1990s" will take place on May 10, 2013. This symposium is sponsored by the Northeast Asia Council of the Association for Asian Studies and the Center for the Study of Contemporary China at Penn. Panelists will trace how the Korean community in China has evolved since China and South Korea formally established diplomatic relations in 1992. Panels include: "The Korean Community in Yanbian, PRC," "Identity, Diaspora & the Homeland," and "Trends in Urbanization in the PRC." We believe that given the striking absence of English language resources and intellectual forums on this topic in recent years, this symposium will make an important contribution to contemporary scholarship on the micro-sociological implications of increasing economic interdependence between South Korea and China.
