Penn's Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) was awarded funding from the US Department of Education for FLAS (Foreign Language & Area Studies) fellowships to support Penn students who study modern East Asian Languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean)and either related area or international studies or East Asia-related aspects of professional fields. Up to 5 graduate students and 4 undergraduate students will be supported for the current Academic Year 2018-19. The deadline for submission of the applications will be September 10th, 2018.
New as well as continuing graduate and undergraduate students are eligible for FLAS fellowships, which include $18,000 toward tuition and a stipend of $15,000 for graduate students and for undergraduates $10,000 for tuition and $5,000 for stipend (per academic year). Students should submit complete applications directly to CEAS using this link. Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible.  Although strength of proposal is a principal consideration for evaluation, financial need is also a priority.
Later this fall CEAS will solicit applications for Summer 2019 FLAS awards as well.
