Funded by the AKS (Academy of Korean Studies), the James Joo-Jin Kim Center for Korean Studies will award grants of $1,000 to support members of the University of Pennsylvania faculty, lecturers, and graduate students for the development of new courses or the significant revision of existing courses related to Korea. The proposed course can be Korea-focused or comparative with substantial coverage of Korea. An additional $1,000 will be awarded upon the successful completion of the course. The grant will be dispersed as additional pay.
Selections for awards will be made based on the merit of the proposals. New courses supported by this grant program should be incorporated into the given academic department’s regular offerings. To qualify for a grant, please submit a completed application form by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2024 to Seok Lee (seok2@sas.upenn.edu). Grant recipients must submit a proposed syllabus and brief one-page report detailing how the course is being developed no later than 6 months after receipt of the initial $1,000 funding. Recipients of the additional $1,000 must submit a final syllabus and brief one-page report describing the semester following the first offering of the course.
