2024-2025 Undergraduate Fellow

Major: International Relations

Minor: Korean Studies

Isoken Umweni is a first-year student in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in International Relations with a minor in Korean Studies. Isoken is a Nigerian who grew up in Newark, New Jersey, and hopes to expand her knowledge about the Korean diaspora as an Undergraduate Fellow.

After immersing herself in Seoul for three weeks, she developed a passion for enhancing her knowledge of the Korean language and cultural dynamics. By engaging in hands-on research at the Kim Center, she hopes to further her exploration of the prospects of the intercultural history of Korea and the development of major environmental issues of its time. During Isoken’s free time, she enjoys dancing with mates at Penn's West African Vibe. She learns different cultural dances, crafts productive and motivational videos for her YouTube channel, and showcases her creativity through her fashion sense. In the future, she strives to be working as a Diplomat and serve as a bridge between US and Korea foreign relations.
