Following University policy regarding the COVID-19 concerns, beginning Monday, 3/16 the Kim Program staff will be working remotely unless there is a compelling reason to come to campus. We have our office phones set to forward messages to our email, so you may feel free to call or email any of us during our regular office hours.
If you do need to speak with someone in person, please schedule a time in advance and we would be happy to arrange a meeting by telephone, zoom, or in person if absolutely necessary. -

Now Accepting 2020-21 Kim Program Graduate Fellow Applications

The James Joo-Jin Kim Program in Korean Studies is pleased to announce the Graduate Fellow Award, aimed at students who are involved in the study of Korea and interested in active participation in the university’s Korean studies program. The Kim Program will recruit up to five (5) Graduate Fellows for the 2020-21 academic year. Fellows will be selected on the basis of academic merits and demonstrated interest in Korean studies. Applicants for this one-year, non-renewable award should be graduate students.

Hyunjoon Park is Korea Foundation Professor of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania and Director of the James Joo-Jin Kim Program in Korean Studies.
Hyeyoung Woo is Associate Professor of Sociology at Portland State University.

The James Joo-Jin Kim Program in Korean Studies awards a graduate student travel grant on a rolling basis, each in an amount up to $750, to assist graduate students at the University of Pennsylvania in any field of Korean Studies with the cost of attending a conference where they present a paper.
