We are very excited about this new stage of development for Korean Studies at Penn thanks to a generous gift from James Joo-Jin Kim and Agnes Kim, and the James and Agnes Kim Family Foundation. 

"The University of Pennsylvania today announced a $25 million gift from James Joo-Jin Kim and Agnes Kim, and the James and Agnes Kim Family Foundation, supporting a range of initiatives at Penn. The largest portion of the multifaceted commitment will create the James Joo-Jin Kim Center for Korean Studies in the School of Arts & Sciences."

Now Accepting 2022–23 Moon Family Postdoctoral Fellowship Applications

The James Joo-Jin Kim Program at the University of Pennsylvania announces a Moon Family Postdoctoral Fellowship in Korean Studies for the 2022–23 academic year. The postdoctoral fellowship is open to scholars whose research and teaching focus on Korea in the humanities (art, cinema, history, literature, music, philosophy, religion, theater, and the like).

Sangsoo Lee and Hyunjoon Park have published, "Trends and educational variation in the association between spouses' marital histories in South Korea, 1993-2017," with Demographic Research. Sangsoo Lee is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania and the Kim Program Graduate Fellow. Hyunjoon Park is Korea Foundation Professor of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania and Director of the James Joo-Jin Kim Program in Korean Studies.
