  • Now Accepting 2022-23 Kim Center Graduate Fellow Applications

    The James Joo-Jin Kim Center for Korean Studies is pleased to announce the Graduate Fellow Award, aimed at students who are involved in the study of Korea and interested in active participation in the university’s Korean studies program. Fellows will be selected on the basis of academic merits and demonstrated interest in Korean studies. Applicants for this one-year award should be full-time graduate students including MA and Ph.D students.

    The Kim Center is pleased to announce the following talks for our Fall 2022 Colloquium series. All talks will take place at 12:00pm EST in the Wolf Humanities Conference Room, Williams Hall 623.

  • Now Accepting 2022-23 Kim Center Undergraduate Fellow Applications

    The James Joo-Jin Kim Center for Korean Studies is pleased to announce the Undergraduate Fellow Award, aimed at students who are involved in the study of Korea and interested in active participation in the university’s Korean Studies program. The Kim Center will recruit up to five (5) Undergraduate Fellows for the 2022–2023 academic year. Fellows will be selected on the basis of academic merits and demonstrated interest in Korean Studies.

  • Call for Submissions: International Conference on Sociology of Korea (I-CSK)

    The James Joo-Jin Kim Center for Korean Studies at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) is pleased to host the International Conference on Sociology of Korea (I-CSK), October 7 – 8, 2022 on the Penn campus. The inaugural conference will provide a venue for scholars across the globe to come together to share their on-going projects on Korea/Koreans and Korean diaspora and develop academic networks.

    The Kim Center for Korean Studies welcomes two new Moon Family Postdoctoral Fellows for the 2022-2023 academic year: Vanessa Baker and Wenjiao Cai. 

  • Ji Hye Kim (2021-22 Moon Family Postdoctoral Fellow)

    We are pleased to announce that Dr. Ji Hye Kim (2021-2022 Moon Family Postdoctoral Fellow) has started her new position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Sogang University, South Korea, beginning in March 2022.

    We are very excited about this new stage of development for Korean Studies at Penn thanks to a generous gift from James Joo-Jin Kim and Agnes Kim, and the James and Agnes Kim Family Foundation. 

    "The University of Pennsylvania today announced a $25 million gift from James Joo-Jin Kim and Agnes Kim, and the James and Agnes Kim Family Foundation, supporting a range of initiatives at Penn. The largest portion of the multifaceted commitment will create the James Joo-Jin Kim Center for Korean Studies in the School of Arts & Sciences."

  • Now Accepting 2022–23 Moon Family Postdoctoral Fellowship Applications

    The James Joo-Jin Kim Program at the University of Pennsylvania announces a Moon Family Postdoctoral Fellowship in Korean Studies for the 2022–23 academic year. The postdoctoral fellowship is open to scholars whose research and teaching focus on Korea in the humanities (art, cinema, history, literature, music, philosophy, religion, theater, and the like).
