    We would like to announce publication of a new book by Eugene Y. Park: A Genealogy of Dissent: The Progeny of Fallen Royals in Chosŏn Korea. Stanford: Stanford University Press, 2018. 
     

  • CEAS now offering East Asia FLAS awards to students for the current academic year 2018-19

    September 4, 2018

    Penn's Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) was awarded funding from the US Department of Education for FLAS (Foreign Language & Area Studies) fellowships to support Penn students who study modern East Asian Languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean)and either related area or international studies or East Asia-related aspects of professional fields. Up to 5 graduate students and 4 undergraduate students will be supported for the current Academic Year 2018-19. The deadline for submission of the applications will be September 10th, 2018.

    We would like to announce the Korean translation publication of Eugene Y. Park’s first monograph, Between Dreams and Reality: The Military Examination in Late Chosŏn Korea, 1600–1894 (Cambridge, Mass.: Harvard University Asia Center, 2007).

  • Penn Forum in Korean Studies

    We are pleased to announce that the James Joo-Jin Kim Program in Korean Studies is launching Penn Forum in Korean Studies, a monthly talk series open to the Penn community. The forum will provide a platform for graduate students and junior scholars to deliver a presentation on their research interest and discuss it with their peers. The forum is open to any graduate students and junior scholars with research interest in Korea from all departments to present.
